The History of Plaine's

Plaine's was opened by Mitch Plaine, its owner, when he was 21 years old. Our master mechanic, Mike, has been with us for over 30 years, and he can fix everything but a broken heart. Claudia, our manager, takes care of the day to day things, she and Mike compliment each other nicely.

Opened in 1974 on the corner of West Housatonic and South St. in Pittsfield, the original merchandise was just bicycles and service; but we evolved to start including Cross-Country skis. 15 years later, we found a large colonial down the street, completely gutted it, and set up shop where we are today. With now double the size from our previous store, we added Alpine skis to our merchandise, and eventually Snowboards, Snowshoes, and everything else.

We quickly needed more space, so we put an addition on to keep up with all of our inventory. We had grown exponentially from being a bike shop to what we are today.

We still needed more space to keep up with the ever growing demand, so in 2011 we added a second floor to our storage area giving us a additional 1,200 sq ft .

We've been around since 1974 and we're the most trusted name in the area for all your bike, ski, snowboard, and service needs. Family owned and community minded are what we've always been about, and those that know us probably wouldn't hesitate to agree that we're the best place to buy a bike in the Berkshires; having won the annual Berkshire's Best award 15 times..

But don't take our word for it, come on in and check us out, you will leave smiling and satisfied, it's what we do here.
